5 Summer skin tips we all need - Bees & Trees

It’s the middle of summer, it can’t get any hotter than this (let’s hope not) and our skin is suffering with us. We have sebum overproduction, acne breakouts and damaged skin barrier from the sea, pools and sun. So, I will give you 5 very valuable tips on how to ease the sufferings of the skin.

1. Use sunscreen daily

This actually applies to all year round, but in summer it gets even more important, as the UV index is very high. Apply the sunscreen 15 minutes before being exposed to the sun and reapply every 2-3 hours. Our Organic Mineral Sunscreen spf 50 makes reapplying during the day very easy. Don’t forget to protect yourself with hats, glasses and stay inside on peak hours.

2. Even the skin is thirsty, just like you!

I’m sure you might have wanted to skip the moisturizer because you thought it would make your face oilier, but that’s a mistake that will compromise your skin’s barrier. The moisturizer is essential for skin health, but you need to find the right one. Organic Moisturizing Cream is perfect for this season, as it nourishes the skin and gets absorbed quickly, without leaving that annoying oily filter. Also, be very careful of sea water and swimming pools. To avoid skin dehydration, rinse your face with water after getting out of the sea/pool. And, if you need extra hydration, you can choose a toner from the Bees&Trees collection, depending on your skin type and problem.

3. What about acne?

In summer, acne increases or worsens. This is due to the build-up of excess oil and sweat in the pores, as well as sea/pool water, sand, barrier damage (from not using a moisturizer), or sunburn. As a result, the situation may worsen. We suggest the Organic BHA Cleansing foam, which contains 2% salicylic acid and 1% niacinamide to minimize acne, balance oil production and reduce inflammation. Then, you can continue the routine with the Organic Witch Hazel Facial Tonic, which has antibacterial and antiseptic properties and helps to calm inflammation, balance oil production and prevent the formation of blackheads.

4. Did I mention face cleansing?

Don’t neglect it! During your PM routine you should double-cleanse. The oil-based cleanser does a fantastic job of melting away any dirt that is built-up in the pores (because oil dissolves oil), then the water-based cleanser removes anything left. In the mornings, you should also use a water-based cleanser, because now in the summer we sweat more at night and we need to remove any dirt, so that we have a clean face when we do our morning routine. Did you know that the recommended time to wash your face is 30-60 seconds

5. General advice.

Go light on makeup. Try to avoid heavy make up or use light products, because it’s very easy to clog the pores.
Clean the phone screen often, change the pillow case often and don’t touch the skin with your hands. Have a great summer and full on beautiful memories!
